In “It Lives Inside,” director Bishal Dutta makes their feature debut with a supernatural horror thriller. The story follows Sam, an Indian-American teenager who inadvertently unleashes a demon that feeds on her former best friend’s loneliness. To combat it, Sam must come to terms with her Indian heritage. The film’s premise is intriguing on paper but ultimately feels derivative and overly cautious in execution. Nonetheless, it remains a watchable and mostly entertaining experience, largely thanks to Suri’s compelling performance as Sam. Bajwa and Gabriel provide strong supporting roles, with emotionally charged scenes. Dutta excels in creating a creepy atmosphere that gradually builds tension, although the film relies too heavily on ineffective jump scares. While it’s praiseworthy for its representation of Indian culture in a horror context, it doesn’t fully deliver the spine-tingling thrills it aspires to. Visit afdah 2 for more!
